How it works
This calculator compares renting furniture from services like Furlenco or Rentomojo against buying the same set outright. The renting path assumes you invest the purchase amount at your expected return rate and pay monthly rent with annual increases. The buying path deducts maintenance and depreciation from the resale value you recover at the end.
Furniture depreciates much faster than property. A sofa worth Rs.80,000 may fetch only Rs.30,000-40,000 after three years. Short tenures (1-3 years) often favour renting, especially if you move frequently or want flexibility to upgrade.
When to use this
Use this when furnishing a new apartment and deciding between a rental subscription plan and buying from IKEA, Pepperfry, or a local store. It is especially useful for young professionals who may relocate within a few years.
For the home purchase decision itself, use the Rent vs Buy calculator.
